The Tijuca National Park has 39 km2. In the colonization period, four centuries ago, it was almost totally destroyed as all its wood was used to build the city of Rio de Janeiro and also as coal for the sugar cane industry. After that it was entirely replanted by slaves and today is the only national park in the world located inside a city!
Famous and impressive geologic formations are part of this park such as the Pedra da Gávea, Pico da Tijuca, Pedra Bonita and Morro do Corcovado, where the Christ statue is located. You will launch from Pedra Bonita (520m) beside Pedra da Gávea and land at São Conrado’s beach, an exotic place where lots of celebrities have made their home.
